I'm thinking about migrating the domain name for the blog over to my Tumblr account by the end of the year. I like how it's much more interactive and I've been spending more and more time over there. So I'll be embedding the tumblr posts here for a while to see how I like it and then possibly making the permanent move later on. Making good on my promise from last time to assign one of the bird signs to a man. I've gone with a portrait bust again so it can kind of act as the counterpiece for the 'Owl' illustration.

I LOVE owls! I just noticed I seem to be unconsciously assigning the birds to the ladies so far though. Must make mental note to mix it up a bit :)

Sometimes when you start something without exaclty knowing where you're going, it turns out great. And other times, it turns out like just that: something that looks like you had no idea where you were going. I'm still not quite sure what or who this is supposed to be, but I don't dislike it either. So there ya go :)

A Calendar Of Tales |September|

A while ago, Neil Gaiman tweeted twelve simple questions to the world. For each question, he picked one answer that inspired him and he wrote twelve short stories each based upon such an answer.

But that's not all, oh no. Mr Gaiman isn't done collaborating with us yet and thus:

" The next stage is art. I made stories inspired by replies, now I want the stories to inspire art. Something we can make a calendar out of  "

I love Neil Gaiman's work and since this is as close as I'm ever going to get to "working with him" I got really really excited when I read about this. And that was even before I read the stories. They're all absolutely wonderful, and all very image-evoking. I picked September (after much debate).

You can go read the stories [here] and you can submit your images (you can make as many as you like!) untill the 11th of March. Neil will pick one for each month and those images will be featured in an e-book.

Either way, I'm keeping the stories on file for when I'm next lost for a subject again. Or maybe for when I just want a good little read. (And, damn, drawing birds is tough!)

Grounded

When those dark winter months arrive, we always hang something extra in the garden for the hungry little birds. Snow can make it very hard for those little fella's to find food. Last year we had a lot of snow, and our garden was full with the cutest little birds (I looked up the translation and apparantly they are called 'great titmouse' or even plain 'great tit' in English, which I think is a bit of a ridiculous name for such a cute bird so I refuse to call them that ;))

This winter there has been no snow yet and temperatures are pretty high for the season. So no birdies... Guess I should be happy that they are able to fend for themselves but I kind of miss them hanging around.
