I'm thinking about migrating the domain name for the blog over to my Tumblr account by the end of the year. I like how it's much more interactive and I've been spending more and more time over there. So I'll be embedding the tumblr posts here for a while to see how I like it and then possibly making the permanent move later on. Making good on my promise from last time to assign one of the bird signs to a man. I've gone with a portrait bust again so it can kind of act as the counterpiece for the 'Owl' illustration.

I LOVE owls! I just noticed I seem to be unconsciously assigning the birds to the ladies so far though. Must make mental note to mix it up a bit :)

Suit up!

If you've been following the blog for a while you'll know this one is becoming quite the tradition. My local pub has an anual bumper billiards tournament and I've designed the poster for each instalment so far: fifth year in a row!

Channeling some classic Barney for this one ;).

Crane

Second one of the year. I'm quite happy with how the crane turned out, and the feathers of her dress. There's something a little off in her face, I think I might want to try something a little more stylized for the next one. Her foot is a little bit too big but I really lost my foot  mojo while drawing it and struggled a little. Every time I tried to shrink it down it looked funky again so I figured I just about got away with it and left it in the end :)

All in all, pretty satisfied with this piece. 

Otter

In 2013 I set myself a subject and a goal: to make enough illustration pieces to form a calendar. This forced me to make at least 12 personal pieces throughout the year. In 2014, I did no such thing. I foolishly thought I would make enough stuff through the year to make a calendar with no set subject at the end of it. When I browsed my blog at the end of the year looking for work to feature in a 2015 calender, I was shocked to see I barely made 5 blogposts this year. I clearly need the proverbial kick up the backside a set goal gives me to not run out of steam as the year progresses. So I've set myself a new calendar subject: it'll be roughly based upon the birth animals featured in the celtic zodiac. Because I love drawing animals and I like to have a starting point list. I'm one of those persons who gets lost in the sea of endless possibilities when faced with the notion of being able to creating anything I want. So I'm limiting myself, as it were, in this way to keep me focused. This'll hopefully help me stay on track and result in a new cohesive calendar at the end of the year.

|Christmas card countdown| Faun family

These are three different commissions but I decided to do them as a series. I started of with the female faun. It was then brought to my attention that I hardly ever draw men. Which is true, partly because I'm not that good at it, partly because I think they're just not that interesting to draw as women (the shapes never seem to flow as nicely and there's far less of a straight vs curvy line tension that's so visually appealing) So I decided to have another go at it and added the male faun. Baby faun just seemed like the logical next step :)

It's that time of year again! And that means it's time for an overview of all the christmas card commissions I did this year. Kicking things of as always is our little four-legged friend Filou. For those of you who remember, he's my aunt's little pooch and he's been the star of the show for a couple of years now. My aunt and I both enjoy knitting and crochet so I thought it would be fun to incorporate that into the design as well.

Sister Rosetta Goes Before Us

This piece is sort of a case study for an idea for a graphic novel that's been mulling around in my head. It's still not fully fledged but it's centered around bluegrass music. I've always had a weak spot for that beautiful music style and I've always wished I could play and write those type of songs myself. Unfortunately I never learned to play an instrument (this may still be fixed at some point in my life) and I'm not a great singer (I'm afraid there's no cure for that one :)); so my lingering dreams of ever recording a bluegrass album will stay just that, unless I do it using the instruments I do master: pencils, paint, wacom tablet and so on. So that's the basic set-up: I'll write an album. Illustrating existing standards, maybe writing some new lyrics myself. I'm not sure yet if it'll be just these bits and pieces, or if I'll let it revolve around a story to tie it all together. Anyways, this is the first step for all of that. It's available as a print in my Society6 shop.

I've been trying to keep up with the Sketch Dailies prompts over on Twitter (my Twitter handle is @prispeeters) as much as I can lately. Most of them have been little sketches, which I'll group into one post one of these days, but I thought this topic was so cool I took a little bit more time to do something a bit more fleshed out.

Sunkissed 2.0

Right. So, the day after finishing the previous version of this I pretty much knew I had to redo it because I wasn't really that happy with it anymore. This often happens after a period where I've been real busy with work and drawing only on commission. The first piece of personal work I do after that is always a little bit wonky, like a first pancake. Much happier with this one :)

When you have skin like mine, "sunkissed" more often than not becomes synonymous with "red as a lobster". Oh well, crack open that bottle of sunblock!
